Rhapsody in Spring What a pleasure to hear the songbirds sing, Hopping amongst the tree tops chirping. Small creatures crossing the ground running, Getting ready for the Rite of Spring. The morning drizzle freshens the air, Nurtures the grass grows green and fair. Cleanse the walking path for lack of care, A time to rejuvenate and to be there. Crocus flowers start to bloom, Tired of being buried in all winter gloom. Multi-colour blossom competes to presume, Before the daffodils appear on stage to resume. The battered scrubs come back to life on site, Coated with new green sprouts to see the light. The sun glitters through the shades with delight, A warm feeling to see what’s within sight. Gone are the winter snow piles lying in the yard, The grass under snow cover relieves from discard. Spring cleaning is an annual chore with great regard, The beauty of springtime depends on working hard. Welcome, each year when Spring arrives, Enjoy the pleasantry of Spring revives. Praise that nature takes its course survives, It is how the Rhapsody in Spring derives. [DK#2.30 2023-05-04] This poem reflects the sentiments of my second year of Spring while living at the senior home, the Court at Barrhaven, since August 18, 2021.
I wonder where goes the mild Winter
I wonder where goes the mild Winter,
I yearn for the late arrival of Spring.
The songs of young love I shall remember,
The dream I dreamed of is what aging love may bring.
I don’t hear the bluebirds on the tree top singing,
Where the tree branches are still wearing bare.
The sunlight shines through the branches, beaming,
Where hope for the aged awaits, the end is near.
Had I not been patient to wait for the next tomorrow’s coming,
Had I not been sharing my earnest desires in my poems written?
Had I not felt compassion for the world’s hunger and suffering,
Had I not been reading the signs and omen utterly mistaken?
What measures should I take to calm the nerves within me,
What else could I do to ease the pain in my heart?
What venture should I undertake to fulfill my passions yet to see,
What places should I visit that I have not seen before to start?
I miss my loved ones who had gone before me,
Fate guides my life journey in my destiny.
The fond memories reflect the passions in my life to agree,
Like the snowbirds coming home in time with certainty.
The change of seasons often creates doubts in the mind,
The geese are early this year from the south flying home.
Easter will soon arrive at the end of March for those left behind,
The mild Winter had unwittingly inspired a lonely soul to roam.
[DK#1.58 2024-03-06] This poem reminisces a mild Winter we went through this year in 2024.
